AL-Taouss Plate red

In Moroccan tradition, 'Tabssil Al Taouss,' where 'Tabssil' means 'plate' in Moroccan dialect, is characterized by its various colors and patterns. It is the official and primary serving dish in all occasions, especially in Moroccan weddings. A cultural heritage present in most Moroccan households, it presents luxurious food to esteemed guests, forming an essential part of the Moroccan bride's 'Al Dahaz' in Moroccan dialect.

The prices of 'Tabssil al Taouss' vary depending on its type. The original type can reach up to $500, while others may cost $100 or $50, depending on the type and quality.

Regarding the story behind this tradition, there are many tales, but the closest to reality is that the peacock, which held a legendary status in popular imagination as a symbol of goodness, was the emblem of the Murabitin and their flag. However, as they were advocates of austerity and asceticism, rejecting all forms of ostentation, these dishes didn't appear during their era. With the advent of the Almohad era, life became more lavish, and the peacock appeared for the first time on the base of 'Tabseel,' as we observe it on plates today, with its golden color against a blue background.
So, if you visit Morocco and are served lamb with apricot or chicken with lemon and olives in a blue 'Tabseel al Taouss' or chicken with lemon and olives in a red 'Tabseel al Taouss,' rest assured, you are a distinguished guest.
